I am delighted that Harlots is associated with Beyond The Gaze and listed on the site as a sex worker resource. Beyond The Gaze is a an academic and sex worker association dedicated to providing information, access to resources and research on sex work. One of the founders of the site, Rosie Campbell OBE (Research & Netreach Officer) School of Sociology & Social Policy – University of Leeds has asked me to post the following:
Call for Research Interview Participants: Beyond the Gaze
We wonder if you can help us! Beyond the Gaze is major participatory action research project looking at the working practices, safety & regulation of internet based sex work in the UK which Leeds and Strathclyde Universities are carrying out. For more information & to check out the research team please go to our website; http://beyond-the-gaze.com/
At this stage of research interviews Beyond the Gaze are looking for people from two groups of sex workers to take part in a research interview;
· 1. People who are experienced with using digital technology, the internet & social media a lot for their work. So if you tend to use a number of technologies and platforms for work, including apps/websites such as Twitter, Grindr, Birch Place, Viva Street, Adultwork, Sleepyboys (or others), are active on escort forums, perhaps have been involved in designing or maintaining your own website, or writing a work related blog, we would like to interview you & include your experiences and views in the study.
· 2. People who work as webcammers
What the interview involves: The interview will focus on the use of digital and web based technologies in you work, although it will touch on wider working practices & safety. Interviews can be over Skype, phone or face to face, whatever suits you! Interviews will take a hour, there is a £20 thank you store voucher for your time.
Confidentiality: We know how important privacy and confidentiality is for people in the sex industry. Taking part in an interview will be confidential & anonymous, no personal details that could identify you will be recorded, no names, phone numbers, emails etc. We work to strict ethical guidelines and if we didn’t would get into trouble.
Getting in touch and taking part: If you would like to take part in a research interview or get further information about what this involved please email me Rosie Campbell on firstname.lastname@example.org. We will arrange a time that suits you.
I have worked with Rossie Cambell and her colleagues and can vouch for their integrity and discretion. Research is vital in creating data that builds a true representation of sex work within the UK. Information is our most important ally in the battle for decriminalisation and for rights.
