I was alerted by this video on you tube by several face book friends. I think it illustrates visually what sex workers have been saying to governments. If you are serious about tackling sex trafficking then involving the sex industry as allies in your campaign is just common sense. Sex workers do not want any involvement or association with traffickers. Trafficked sex workers are victims of abuse. Know the difference and don’t confuse sex work with trafficking.
As sex workers on this video demand, LET US BE PART OF THE SOLUTION.
As an activist; I increasingly realise that saying we are against trafficking is not enough. It is important that our industry becomes involved and becomes part of the solution. As an industry it is madness for governments to exclude us from the debate. You cannot stop trafficking unless you engage with the industries where abuse occurs. The sex industry is no exception. Involve us, don’t exclude us and for heavens sake don’t blame us, our clients or our industry. And learn the difference between migrant and trafficked. It’s not rocket science.
